You're more likely to increase patient engagement and interest with a range of content — including videos, blogs, social posts, and articles — but the idea of creating that much content and coming up with fresh ideas can be overwhelming. Here are seven easy ways to engage current and prospective dental patients online.
7 simple ways to boost patient engagement online
- Demonstrate how to do something. How-to videos are the most popular type of videos on YouTube, with 91% of internet users turning to their smartphones to watch a video when doing a task. Why not show viewers how to floss, spot signs of gum disease, do home teeth whitening, apply trays or do a salt-water rinse?
- Answer common patient questions. “What does it mean if my tooth hurts when I drink ice water?” “Should I floss before or after brushing?” If you have a list of frequently asked questions on your site, create a video or blog post to answer each one. Use the autocomplete feature on YouTube for more ideas — type in a general topic, like dental or teeth or braces, and see what the search field suggests.
- Share product and service information. Have new equipment in your office or a new service like a different type of whitening gel? Show it off and explain how it helps patients.
- Get your patients involved. Ask patients to do short video testimonials on your social media accounts and share these on your website. Record testimonials while patients are in the office — for example, on the day the braces come off.
- Meet the staff. Introduce your team members by sharing your team’s background, expertise, what they love about working for you and fun facts like unusual hobbies.
- Show off your office. A virtual tour gives potential patients a better idea of what to expect when they visit your office, helps reduce potential anxiety, and allows you to show off your services and amenities.
- Make announcements. Create videos, blogs or social media posts to alert patients to changes in your practice, such as new products or services; new doctors, hygienists or other staff; and changed check-in procedures.
